Internationalisation at Egas Moniz
The Portuguese universities’ growing presence and positioning on the international rankings shows the quality and consistency of Portuguese higher education and research.
The international students at Egas Moniz come from different continents; we have European, Asian, Latin-American, Middle Eastern and African students.
This acknowledgement has been seen in the different training options available at our institution, such as Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Forensic and Criminal Science, Nutrition Science, reflecting the capacity and affirmation of our teaching and research in a global manner.
Ever since its start in Xabregas, Lisbon in 1987, the then Lisbon School of Dentistry stood out for its openness and demand by foreign students, mostly Spanish, who then disseminated the institution in their respective communities of origin. Accordingly, we witnessed numerous Spanish students enrolling, many of them graduates already, who developed healthy comradery and a sharing of culture and knowledge with our fellow students.
As well as hosting international students, Egas Moniz has invested in the internationalisation of the teaching body, hiring international lecturers for the undergraduate and post-graduate degrees.
The demand on the one hand by ERASMUS students and on the other by French, Spanish, Italian and Brazilian students, among others, brought a significant weight to the plurality of our teaching, which for the first time was done in other languages. Egas Moniz is strongly committed to attracting foreign students and our goal is to take our existence to as many countries as we can, showing them our methods and the excellence of our teaching.
We are under the Erasmus+ Programme Guide: “Europe needs more cohesive and inclusive societies which allow citizens to play an active role in democratic life. Education, training, youth work and sport are key to promote common European values, foster social integration, enhance intercultural understanding and a sense of belonging to a community, and to prevent violent radicalisation. Erasmus+ is an effective instrument to promote the inclusion of people with disadvantaged backgrounds, including newly arrived migrants”.
