History
The Instituto Universitário Egas Moniz (IUEM) was created in 1987, an innovative project in Portugal to create a university focused exclusively on courses that were intimately and directly related to health. At the core of IUEM’s philosophy lies the existence of common areas of knowledge and others that are interspersed in such a way as to offer students multidisciplinary approaches, with a widely beneficial reflection on grades and academic performance, in the scope of their knowledge, in scientific research and in the provision of services. Our undergraduate degrees are tailored to modern and quality teaching in order to meet the needs of a scientifically and technologically-evolved society.
Over the last few years IUEM has greatly expanded its facilities, equipment and increased the number of courses on offer, while at the same time undergoing major pedagogical and scientific activity, areas that are indispensable in a solid university. IUEM has its own teaching staff who are highly qualified and constantly undergoing training, taking part in several scientific and medical research projects funded by official bodies and developed in partnership with national and foreign universities. It also has a floor containing laboratories that are solely dedicated to scientific research.
It is connected to several other universities in Portugal and abroad, as well as companies, hospitals, health centres and social welfare institutions, which ensure graduates enjoy a seamless integration in their professional life.
IUEM has been consolidating its top position in teaching Health Science in Portugal, a fruit of its renowned professional skills, which is then translated by the fact that its graduates all find a job.
The passage to Instituto Universitário Egas Moniz by the Decree-Law 155/2017 of December 28, 2017 brought new perspectives to the Institute, that makes it autonomous to develop other types of pedagogical and scientific activities, namely the creation of PhDs. It ends up being an acknowledgment, by the competent Entities, of the efforts made by the Direction and by the entire Faculty throughout all these years.
